A Radio Station Podcast Tops the Charts

There are a few – very few - examples of local commercial radio stations hitting the podcast charts in a meaningful way.  But here is one.

Last week, the fine folks at Bonneville’s KSL in Salt Lake City launched Cold an unsolved crime podcast about Susan Powell, a missing Utah mother. Her body has never been found.

KSL unearthed a trove of new information.

Director of Audience Development Sheryl Worsley spearheaded the podcast initiative producing the weekly series.  Promotion was coordinated with sister TV station KSL-TV and Seattle’s KIRO radio.

There was so much interest in the podcast that within just a few hours after the teaser podcast dropped, it topped the Apple Podcasts chart.

The series took three years to develop. Sheryl told us: her “role was to recognize what we had and convince people this story was best told as a podcast and to ask for the resources to do conduct this investigation. Luckily, the people at Bonneville Salt Lake immediately saw the value and caught the vision for the project.”

Congratulations to the team at Bonneville on a breakthrough podcast project.

Hopefully, more local radio stations will follow.
